Save and protect our marine wildlife by helping MCS turn the tide on litter:

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is a UK charity dedicated to protecting our seas, shores and wildlife. As part of its campaign for clean seas and beaches, MCS co-ordinates an annual Beachwatch litter survey and clean up. MCS Beachwatch 2010 takes place over the weekend of 18th – 19th  September, on beaches all over the UK. YOU can help MCS protect our seas, shores and wildlife from damaging and unsightly litter by taking part in Beachwatch 2010 at a beach near you!

Beach litter is more than just an eyesore for thousands of beach visitors across the country; it's a global issue that represents a major threat to many vulnerable marine animals.

MCS Beachwatch is an annual UK-wide beach litter survey and clean up, organised by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) since 1993. MCS Beachwatch takes place on the third weekend in September every year, and represents the UK's contribution to the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), which takes place in over 70 countries worldwide. The Marine Conservation Society mobilise thousands of volunteers, surveying litter on hundreds of beaches throughout the UK. The results from MCS Beachwatch are published annually in a MCS Beachwatch Report, available to the public and vital in the MCS campaign to stem the litterbugs at source.

MCS Beachwatch is the flagship event of the Adopt-a-Beach project, which encourages local volunteers to survey marine litter every quarter.

Litteraction has been launched in partnership between CleanupUK and the CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England)

CleanupUK

Who are CleanupUK?

CleanupUK is a charity specialising in tackling the litter problem by supporting the activities of volunteer litter-collecting groups around the UK and helping new groups to form.

The charity was founded by George Monck in 2007. George is passionate about solving the litter problem and has picked up litter in many places around the UK. He's travelled as far horizontally as the Shetland Isles and as far vertically as the top of Ben Nevis to do so.

CleanupUK is delighted to be partnering CPRE in the litteraction.org.uk website so that, as well as benefiting from a wealth of advice and information, volunteers have access to a powerful campaigning and lobbying force.

Who are CPRE?

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) is one of the longest established and most respected environmental groups in England.CPRE aims to protect the beauty, tranquillity and diversity of rural England.

Formed in 1926, CPRE is a powerful combination of effective local action and strong national campaigning.

It has over 60,000 members and supporters, a network of over 200 district groups and there's a branch of CPRE in every English county, a group in every region, as well as a national office in London.

CPRE's president is author Bill Bryson, a passionate anti-litter campaigner.
